Federal Council

ASTA is a Federal organisation, comprised of eight State/Territory Science Teachers Associations. Individual members join the State or Territory Association where they reside. Thus ASTA has an effective membership of 6000 teachers and other interested individuals. This membership includes primary, secondary and tertiary teachers of science as well as policy makers and educators in other areas linked to science education.

There is an Executive Committee consisting of the President, either the Immediate Past President or President Elect, the Treasurer and the Chief Executive Officer. The members of the Federal Executive communicate regularly, often by e-mail or teleconference.

The Federal Council, which comprises two representatives from each Member Association plus the Executive Committee, usually meets face to face at least once before the annual national conference CONASTA.
