2008 Ruth Dirck's Scholarship Winners Dominica Thomson, Cameron Ross and Nicolette Burraston
Congratulations to the 2008 winners of the Ruth Dircks ASTA Scholarships to CONASTA. They are Nicolette Burraston, Dominica Thomson and Cameron Ross.Nicolette is a science and chemistry teacher at Cowra High School in New South Wales. She is in her third year of teaching and is a keen user of ICT in her classroom using SMART Boards regularly. Nicolette is also a keen promoter and participant in the STANSW Young Scientist of the Year Awards and encourages her students to look beyond the classroom for their science learning opportunities.
Dominica is the Science Coordinator at Salisbury Downs Primary School in South Australia. She enjoys her teaching of science and is committed to implementing the Primary Connections program in her school in order to develop the notion of inquiry learning in her students. Dominica has been teaching for seven years and has presented at the recent SASTA Conference in SA.
Cameron is very new to the teaching profession having only begun this year. He teaches at Hedland Senior High School in Port Hedland in the Pilbara of Western Australia. He became a member of STAWA whilst part way through his B Ed. Cameron is committed to inquiry-learning believing it helps students develop scientific literacy and an interest in science.
The winners had their CONASTA registration, travel to CONASTA 57 on the Gold Coast and accommodation paid for by ASTA.
